Social media’s full of advice.
“You don’t need to read, just work on your business.”
“Fuck therapy, go to the gym instead.”
I’m developing a stock response to such guidance, “Always has to be one or the other, doesn’t it.”
I’ve always said, and still hold, that you can have both. It’s about priorities AND how you balance things out.
I love the immersion of reading, how it takes my entire focus and I absorb interesting, fascinating and useful info. Those “oooh, yeah!” moments.
It’s about wanting to learn. Other artists and writers express things differently from me and I find that really stimulating. I find it inspiring too.
It’s the same when you talk with people…
Ask questions, listen to the answers, let it sink in and THEN figure out if you integrate it or keep on walking. Do it all at your pace and find your own way.
Most want attention and aren’t actually that interested in wisdom. You can tell by the binaries they push.
Be discerning, be interested.
